The DPS Troopers Foundation and the DPSOA continue to honor the life, service, and sacrifice of Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez, who passed away following a traffic crash investigation in Ector County. This softball tournament is proudly held in his honor and memory.
On the morning of Sept. 17, Trooper Ramirez Vasquez was serving the people of Texas while investigating a crash along SH 302 when he was struck by a vehicle. He suffered critical injuries and was transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa before being airlifted to a Lubbock-area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries on Sept. 28. He was 25 years old.
Trooper Ramirez Vasquez served this state with honor, courage, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others. Whether wearing the uniform of the Texas Highway Patrol, the United States Army, or the National Guard, Kevin dedicated his life to service before self. His professionalism, compassion, and dedication to public safety reflected the very best of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Kevin began his career with DPS in 2023 and was proudly stationed in Odessa. Though his time in uniform was far too short, his impact on his fellow Troopers, his community, and the State of Texas will never be forgotten.
Through this tournament, participants, sponsors, and supporters not only celebrate Kevin’s legacy, but also help continue a spirit of service and giving back to Texas communities.
